My work is based in the use of mixed media, best expressed using a wide variety of approaches and materials. Typically, I begin a work by choosing a word or phrase (for example, “map-making”) that intrigues me. This generates ideas for a combination of images and preliminary avenues. After making order of rather incomplete, chaotic images, I feel the final product will indicate a visual language of suggestion that is shared with the viewer.
Frequently, this process develops into a series of thematic drawings and paintings with a common image or idea, allowing many options and an open-ended body of work, as well as a deeper involvement with my concept. The most valuable element of this whole procedure is my original inspiration, but the process itself is also exceptionally rewarding.
